What exactly is DevOps?

DevOps refers to a combination of cultural philosophies, practices, and tools designed to increase an organisation’s ability to deliver applications and services at a faster pace than has been possible using traditional processes.

DevOps stresses the building of a culture of collaboration between software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) – two key areas of IT that have historically functioned in relative siloes. By focussing on communication, collaboration, integration and automation, DevOps leads to an improved flow of work between software developers and IT operations professionals, allowing organisations to build, test, and release software products faster, more reliably and in closer alignment with business objectives.
